Mission Statement

The Law Offices of Amy A. Breyer, LLC is the first animal law practice in Illinois.  My goal is to provide high-quality, competitive legal services to individuals and organizations that want to protect and advance the interests of non-human animals.  The law recognizes corporations, towns and other entities as “persons” for purposes of granting some legal rights; for example, an “injured” ship may sue for damages on its own behalf.  By contrast, an injured animal cannot.  I believe this tension in the law is wrong and have dedicated my practice to trying to change that.  The challenge is two-fold.  First, to advocate for people who want to exercise their rights as fully as possible to protect the interests of the animals around them. Second, to advocate for changes in both the courtroom and the legislature that would grant animals the ability to protect their own interests.
